The mountains on the island and the coast funnel the wind off the Sea of Cortez into LaVentana Bay.

To the south is a big, hot valley.  The combination of local thermal wind, the frequent "El Norte" wind, and the venturi effect from the surrounding mountains make La Ventana a good bet for November through April winds.

FROM THE CABO AIRPORT TO LA VENTANA

1. Take Hwy 1 North towards La Paz & Buena Vista. After an hour or so you will pass through Beuna Vista, then Los Barilles. Continue north past San Bartolo, over a mountain pass into San Antonio (if it’s daylight, look for the awesome view of La Ventana Bay).

2. Turn right just past the San Antonio Pemex on the left. Stay on the best pavement & look for small signs to the newly paved road to Los Planes & La Ventana. It sounds weird but there is only one main paved road.

3. Turn left when this road dead ends into a T at highway 286. Go about 3 miles.

4. Take the first PAVED right
to La Ventana & El Sargento. At Km 9 you will see a black sperm whale with "Captain Kirks" on it.

5. Turn right under the kiteboard with our logo. Go almost all the way down the driveway & park by the palm frond covered building or the bike rack. All room assignments are posted on the bulletin board located on the palm frond wall.

FROM THE LA PAZ AIRPORT TO LA VENTANA:

1. Bear right coming out of the airport.

2.Turn right on HWY 1 towards La Paz.

3. Bear right at the WhaleTail / Dove of Peace Monument.

4. Turn right on Colosio, which turns into Route 286 after it crosses Forjadores (to S.J. de Los Planes). Take Mex 286 completely out of town & into the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. Just keep going straight past the junkyards just outside of town & head up the hill. Watch out for livestock on the highway & enjoy the scenery !!

5. Turn left at the sign for "La Ventana & El Sargento". At Km 9 you will see a black sperm whale with "Captain Kirks" on it.
